Fears and phobias

Panic fear of the male sex is androphobia

Androphobia is enough common social phobia in women, manifested in a panic fear of the opposite sex.

For the first time this term was introduced into use and thoroughly studied by the American psychologist Melvin Kinder. Further research continued his student - Connell Cowan.

The essence of the phobia

Unlike numerous phobias, androphobia is social, that is, suggests an external factor, which once had a negative impact on the human psyche, causing not only the strongest emotions, but also leaving trauma.

Fortunately, androphobia can be cured, however, according to doctors, only a few patients admit that they suffer from this phobia.

As a rule, women who have negative emotions for men, argue it own character and a manifestation of feminismbut not a sign of illness.

In this case, not only strangers will cause disgust. Negatives among androphobes can be aroused by close friends, co-workers, and even relatives, on whom a phobic woman will undoubtedly begin to take out all her anger and hatred.

However, the belief that feminism and androphobia are synonymous is extremely wrong.

After all feminism in essence, it is a social movement aimed at fighting for equality between a man and a woman, while androphobia is a mental disorder that has its own symptoms and is able to worsen in the absence of treatment.

Where does the fear of the male sex come from? The psychologist explains:

The reasons

The first manifestation of the disease possible at any age However, most often the disorder begins to assert itself in adolescence (approximately 20 years old), when the hormonal imbalance and puberty of the girl reach their peak, and the emotional state is unstable.

Reasons for the occurrence of androphobia can serve:

  • excessive mistreatment, the use of force or coercion by a man. There are frequent cases of manifestations of androphobia in girls who have been raped;
  • scenes of violence from childhood (serious scandals and quarrels of parents, fights, beating up of a loved one, public humiliation of the patient or his own person) that occurred before the eyes of the child;
  • watching movies with the presence of violence and rude scenes of fights involving men;
  • improper upbringing in a family consisting only of women, where the child constantly heard negative reviews about members of the opposite sex;
  • first love and sexual experiences that ended in failure and heartbreak of the patient.

Symptomatology

The most prominent symptom Any social phobia is, of course, panic fear, starting in the patient in case of the need for his direct contact with the object.

The mere thought of being in the same room, standing beside or even talking to a man causes him not only extremely strong fear, but also a feeling of confusion, as a result of which a person’s speech becomes unclear, there is a wandering nervous gaze and inappropriate gesticulation .

Among other things, androphobia has such additional symptoms, as:

  • tremor of the upper and lower extremities;
  • the appearance on the skin of pale pink and red spots, similar to allergic rashes;
  • severe vomiting;
  • excessive sweating;
  • urge to urinate or defecate;
  • panic attacks, accompanied by tachycardia and, in some cases, even loss of consciousness from an overabundance of emotions.

How does it manifest itself?

Since the male half of humanity causes extremely negative emotions in androphobes, including hatred and the desire to crack down on an unpleasant object, there are some typical manifestations of this psychological problem:

  1. Refusal to visit places of congestion of men. As a rule, such women will gossip with their friends in a cafe with great pleasure if there are no cavaliers in the establishment. And this is not at all a manifestation of inaccessibility. Everything is much simpler - androphobes are comfortable in such places, and they will bypass numerous sports stadiums and bars per quarter only because of the accumulation of representatives of the strong half of humanity in them.
  2. Positive attitude towards sexual minorities. Another manifestation of this phobia, in which a woman will more quickly and more easily adopt a nontraditional orientation (and even very possibly follow it), rather than calmly discussing the classic heterosexual relations between a man and a woman.
  3. Hence the prevailing opinion that women suffering from androphobia most often accept lesbian love as the only possible and correct one, and their adoption of children is completely denied.

  4. Traction to loneliness. Since even our modern world for the most part is still traditional, that is, “accepting” normal relations between a man and a woman, androphobes, often lonely individuals, who consider hermit life as a norm and despise society as such.
  5. The manifestation of feminism. The struggle for equality, of course, is one of the manifestations of mental disorder, but not in the sense in which society interprets it. For androphobia, independence seems to be the norm, and the afflicted person will definitely tell you about it.

    Nevertheless, unlike real feminists, patients with this disease on a subconscious level still dream of a normal family and a responsible man. And having cured, they can even become a faithful and decent wife and mistress.

  6. Excessive male criticism. The rejection of a strong half of humanity makes women not only secretly hate men, but also make every effort to prove their point of view to others through a search for numerous "flaws and vices."

    A woman-androphobe will certainly try to explain to you in all colors that a man, in essence, is an inept, stupid and unnecessary creation, all of whose thoughts are at the level of the most primitive instincts and no more.

Do men suffer from androphobia?

It is logical that only women suffer from androphobia.

Nevertheless, manifestations of this phobia occurred in psychiatric practice. the men themselves.

The only difference was the fact that the patient was afraid of "a man in himself", but he was absolutely sensible about the surrounding representatives of his gender.

The reason for the appearance of internal fear, according to psychologists, were childhood emotional trauma and violencelasted a long period of time.

People exposed to domestic violence were exposed to the same fear - the fear of a weak boy. To many, he is also familiar with school, when older and stronger peers begin to mock the weak, hesitant to give up.

And the wrong upbringing, as a result of which the guy afraid to fight and prefers to endure bullying, forcing him to hate in himself the "silent martyr", because of which the existence at school and outside it becomes unbearable.

As a result, the intentional change of habits to more female ones (after all, the attitude towards girls is always better), the preference of the beautiful half of humanity and the aversion of their masculine essence because of its weakness.

What to do if you are afraid of men? Psychologist tips:

Psychotherapy and treatment

The main rule in the treatment of mental disorders is a strict ban on any medication and independent home treatment.

It should be understood that taking even the most modern and "most effective" drugs will not help get rid of the problem.

The maximum that can be expected from drugs is a short-term withdrawal of symptoms and no more.

Most effective and really demonstrating a positive result is considered psychotherapy. Fortunately, finding an experienced specialist who can help the patient get rid of the phobia is quite simple.

At the initial stage of treatment, a professional psychologist conducts a full diagnosis and prescribes individual treatment aimed at eliminating the cause of fear.

In the event that androphobia is mild, treatment is limited psychotherapy. Its essence is in the constant and deliberate rapprochement of the patient with the subject of fear.

If this technique does not give results, a specialist may be appointed hypnosis, able to remove the barrier and “reprogram” the patient to a healthy attitude towards the stronger sex.

One way or another, it’s not worth it to give up, because timely treatment by a professional psychotherapist will help a woman to realize that she shouldn’t fear the opposite sex and expect evil from him.

Soft form of suggestion and gentle psychotherapy will undoubtedly “wipe out” all fears, after which the attitude towards the stronger sex will change dramatically. And after a few months, the former androphobe learns to build normal healthy relationships.
