Positive thinking: tips on how to develop it

On all sides, psychologists call us to "think positively." But what does it mean? Could it really be that positive thinking can somehow affect immediate problems? After all, if you think about it, then thoughts are not thoughts, and the salary will not increase, health will not be better, and there is no love, and no.

How it works?

A rare person is aware that his thinking directly affects the quality of life, the attitude of others, personal achievements. Any action begins with a thought. If you were given an ax in your hands, you can go into the woods to cut wood to build a fence or go and hack down a neighbor's dog, constantly shitting in your garden. You decide your problem or you will sue your neighbors for killing a pet - it depends on your thinking. Yes, yes, fate or karma has nothing to do with it.

Positive thinking is the ability to objectively evaluate reality and act according to one’s own interests. Such people can not be negative emotions, they do not go on about them. A positive thinking person is always:

  • seeks to live better than now;
  • is looking for new opportunities;
  • satisfied with himself and his life;
  • loves to dream, dream, make plans;
  • ready to accept new information;
  • calmly refers to his own successes and failures;
  • find a thousand reasons why he will succeed;
  • treats others well or neutral;
  • willing to cooperate in the name of a good purpose;
  • learns from the mistakes of others, adopts positive experience and knowledge;
  • does not spare the forces and means to achieve his goal, works hard;
  • is generous with positive emotions, likes to make presents;
  • working on its development.

People with positive thinking do their job faster and better; they see all the possibilities and successfully use them. About such people they say “lucky”, “darling of fortune”. In part, this is so, because they reach unprecedented heights without serious losses, experiences, and trauma.

What about negative thinking?

As you know, thinking is divided into two types - positive and negative. Is everything more or less clear with the first one, but maybe there is also a benefit from negative thinking? Let's first understand what it is and where it comes from.

The negative way of thinking is based on the negation of the unpleasant aspects of reality. Such a person focuses on the dangers of the world around, looking for a catch in everything. His life credo - be prepared for the worst. He may, and would like to live better, "but no matter how worse it gets." A negative-minded person often complains, but does nothing, he does not use opportunities, criticizes himself and others. They say “peeping”, “whiner”, “bore”, “loser” about this.

Sadly, every second person of middle age has exactly negative type of thinking. Why is that? Thinking can affect:

  • own negative experience;
  • tragedies and dramas of others;
  • abrupt change in life (moving to another country);
  • serious illness;
  • threat to life (assault, accident);
  • hyper care of relatives;
  • personal characteristics.

As you can see, there is no benefit from negative thinking. Hiding in your sink, you will not be saved from all evils. In the end, when leaving the house a brick can fall on your head, and that’s “your song is sung”. But, having a positive thinking, a person could have so much in time - to make a fortune, to get kids, to buy a bungalow in the Maldives (where there are no bricks).

How to change your thinking?

Focusing on the negative is just a bad habit. Get rid of it is easy, but you need to make some effort. After a couple of weeks, you can breathe deeply, look at the world "with different eyes." Just follow the simple rules:

  • stop fighting windmills;
  • do not complain about life, accept reality as it is;
  • learn to negotiate with others, avoid conflicts;
  • concentrate on your virtues, consider how you can use them;
  • organize yourself a mode - go to bed on time, get up earlier, do exercises, eat fully;
  • find a hobby;
  • try not to get annoyed over trifles, learn to immediately switch attention;
  • surround yourself with eye-catching things that inspire activity;
  • Set a goal and write down what needs to be done to achieve it;
  • make at least one “good deed” every day - move the old woman across the road, feed a stray animal, give a neighbor a cookie, give alms, etc.

You can make an appointment with a psychologist to work through all your fears and get rid of them. Personally, consultations with a specialist helped me to develop positive thinking. Another very useful to perform special exercises, they do not take much time.

"We are looking for dignity"

Knowing your worth is crucial. Only by developing your strengths can you achieve success. To do the exercise, you need to retire for 10 minutes in the morning and write out 10 of your advantages on a sheet. The next day - another 10 (others), and so for 2 weeks. In the end, you should have 140 points.

The task seems impossible at first. But that's the point. You need to be smart, overcome stupor and find a couple more of their strengths, and then another and another.

"Disadvantages are helpful."

Often the same trait of character can be attributed to both disadvantages and advantages. For example, caution. Some cautious people will be considered a coward, others will find this trait useful, protecting its master from recklessness.

To develop positive thinking, one must learn to find advantage and advantage even in weaknesses. Think what character traits you don't like in yourself? Now try to sell them.

"What good do you see?"

This exercise helps to look at your surroundings in a different way. If you look closely, then even the worst person can find at least one virtue. Remember who annoys you the most. Perhaps this is a neighbor from the upper floor, who has been doing repairs on weekends in the morning for the past 3 years. Think about the fact that he loves to do everything with his own hands, understands construction, repairs (which not every man can do).

Enumerate all unpleasant personalities in your memory, find a couple of merits from them. In order to develop positive thinking, it is important to get rid of hostility, hatred, resentment towards anyone. Learn to see only their best side.

"Journal of Happiness"

Get a thick notebook and make the following sections: success, joyful events, dreams, dignity, gratitude. It is not necessary to describe any grand events, it can be a regular walk through the park, a small gift from a friend, delicious coffee, and a nice rest at the club. Write that you are proud to be up early today, say thanks for the wonderful weather, health, good mood, etc.

Regularly make fresh entries, the thicker the happiness log is, the better. Put it in a prominent place and reread in difficult moments.

"Always say yes"

Try to avoid negative sayings. From now on, the particle "not" and the word "no" is prohibited. This seemingly absurd exercise helps to listen, and most importantly, to hear the interlocutor, to find in his words reasonable. Often, a short "yes" helps to get away from unnecessary dispute, conflict, maintains positive relationships with others, develops positive thinking.

At first it may seem that little depends on one’s own world perception. But a negative person is rarely successful, but a positive one, on the contrary, is always happy, even without having a soul (because he knows that there is a time for everything). Therefore, develop positive thinking and be happy!
