Fears and phobias

How to overcome anxiety?

Sometimes people, even those who are not in a stressful situation, feel anxious and cannot relax or feel happy. This is the feeling of anxiety.
Very often, anxiety sensations are confused with such a concept as fear, although these are completely different things.

Fear is a standard and completely natural reaction of the body to a real threat, and this feeling is based on instincts. The simplest example of these concepts can be cited using the example of a child and a bicycle. When a child does not want to go on his own, as he is afraid of falling - this is a feeling of anxiety, as he is not threatened at the moment. When a child falls from a bicycle and starts to cry with fear, this is the feeling of fear.

In addition, a person can always explain the cause of fear, or at least name it, and anxiety can sometimes manifest itself for no apparent reason.

This feeling is much more dangerous than fear, because fear, most often, passes quickly and without a trace, but anxiety is not. Disturbing experiences often lead to breakdown and depression.

However, anxiety always has its cause, and feeling anxious, it is better to look at yourself and try to correct the situation.

Many people, trying to become strong personalities, try to deny the feeling of anxiety and hide it from others and from themselves.

There are various ways to avoid anxiety, the main ones are:

  • rationalization is an attempt to prove one’s own right and justify one’s behavior, thereby relieving oneself of responsibility for what is happening;
  • anesthesia - taking medication, drugs, alcohol, or even smoking in order to "calm down and be distracted." Experts also include excessive enthusiasm for work, care "with the head" in social life or entertainment;
  • denial - an attempt to ignore the feeling of anxiety, which is ineffective. The harm from such behavior lies in the fact that avoiding thoughts or situations that lead you to anxiety, leads to the formation of internal prohibitions that significantly narrow your scope.

How to deal with this unpleasant feeling?

First you need to give yourself a break. You do not need to be strong and keep yourself in hand, it is better to give yourself time to survive this anxious feeling.

To avoid its manifestation, try to understand in what situations or at what time it arises in you, try to figure out what exactly is the cause of your alarm. Try to calm down and relax, because constant anxiety and fear - this is undoubtedly a great stress for any person.

And in the future, be prepared for the manifestation of anxiety in certain situations, because forewarned is forearmed.
