Why do mood swings arise and how to deal with them

Mood swings are a significant drawback that complicates the life of a person and his environment. Most often, a similar phenomenon is observed in women, although it is not uncommon among men. What does this indicate? What to do in this case? What causes emotional instability? Is it worth worrying about this? What measures need to be taken to even out your mood? Can I do this on my own? We will understand the essence of this issue.

The main causes of mood swings

The reasons for this phenomenon are many. Frequent mood changes may be due to physiological or mental processes. Women are more susceptible to her, but among men such cases are not isolated. The main reasons for sudden mood swings are:

  • Hormonal imbalance;
  • Drug intake;
  • Decreased motor activity;
  • Pathological processes;
  • Depression or stress;
  • Diets and physical exhaustion;
  • Bad habits.

Generally speaking, changeable mood signals weakness of the body. Of course, different types of temperament can be characterized by a certain specificity. Phlegmatic and sanguine persons are less susceptible to mood changes, whereas choleric and melancholic people experience these conditions more often. But still you can trace the line between the norm and deviation.

Hormonal imbalance

The emotional background of a person is closely related to the production of many hormones. Among them are those that raise the mood, while others, on the contrary, lower it "below the baseboard." Increasing the level of male sex hormones (testosterone in the first place) leads to human aggressiveness. Female hormones (estrogens), on the contrary, are responsible for softness. By the way, in any person, regardless of gender, both types of sex hormones are present.

Simply they are expressed in varying degrees. Thyroid hormone thyroxin can provoke irritability. Serotonin, or "hormone of happiness", on the contrary makes a person kind and cheerful. Oxytocin defines attachment and trust. In men, hormonal changes rarely change, but for women, mood swings are normal for this reason, especially during menstruation.

Medication

Medicines can affect a person’s emotions. This is indicated in the list of side effects. A sudden change of mood under the influence of such drugs should not be surprising. The main thing to understand, why take these medicines. If you can without them, it is better to do so. When there is no other choice, you will have to put up with side effects, especially since, most often, after stopping the medication, mood swings cease. If the negative effect continues, it is better to go to the doctor.

Reduced physical activity

Health is largely due to motor activity. For energy to enter the body, it must be wasted. Therefore, people who lead an active lifestyle, play sports and do not sit in one place, feel much healthier than inert and passive individuals. Mood swings are also much less common. When the body is in good shape, it helps in maintaining emotional constancy. The fact is that physical exertion contributes to the release of a number of useful substances, which, getting into the blood, contribute to improving well-being and improving mood. People who do not show normal motor activity, deprive themselves of this emotional "nourishment."

Pathological processes in the body

A number of diseases can provoke mood swings. The reason is the hormonal imbalance that they cause, as well as a violation of the production of other vital substances. These can be acute or chronic infectious diseases, pathologies of a non-infectious nature. To eliminate these causes, you must correctly diagnose them. Without consulting a doctor, it is impossible to do. Therefore, if the rest does not help get rid of mood swings, it is better to contact a medical institution.

Depression or stress

These "trendy" diagnoses really have a negative impact on a person's emotional background. The fact is that the wrong way of life, coupled with a poor environment and poor quality nutrition, undermine human health. Against this background, in addition to poor health and loss of strength, mood swings can also be observed. This is not yet a disease, but if the condition does not change, pathological changes may occur against its background. Long stay in a depressive state, or stress, destroys nervous tissue, changes hormones and depresses the immune system with all the ensuing consequences.

Diets and physical exhaustion

The lack of useful substances for mental activity is caused, in addition to external factors, also by an internal human desire for "perfection". All sorts of diets and other self-torture sometimes undermine health no worse than seasonal diseases or the nearby chemical production. Of course, sometimes it is useful to limit oneself to food, but if you do it with fanaticism, then, apart from harm, nothing will come of it. Mood swings are a bright sign that it's time to end a hunger strike, otherwise it won't end with good for the body.

Bad habits

Considering all the "charms" of the industrial world, including emissions of hazardous substances into the atmosphere, food colors and flavors, pollution of water bodies and soil, further ruin the body with alcohol or nicotine is akin to masochism. By themselves, bad habits at first do not cause mood swings, but if they enter the “chronicle”, then a tangible blow to the psyche will not take long to wait. This is especially pronounced during the "breaking" period, when either there is not enough bottle or the last cigarette on the road is over. Not to mention drug addiction is more serious.

How to deal with mood swings?

Panicking in case of mood swings is not worth it, but attention should be paid to them. Depending on the cause of their caller, various methods of prevention and elimination may occur. Most often, it helps rest, proper nutrition and good sleep. If they are not enough, it is better to consult a doctor and undergo a medical examination in order to identify the cause. If mood swings are caused by a disease, then it will be necessary to cure it and the symptoms will pass by themselves.

In any case, it is better to learn a simple rule. Preventing a problem is much easier than fixing it later. Wrong way of life - The simplest way to get health problems, including mental ones. The best prevention is physical activity, healthy diet and proper alternation of work and rest. It is equally important to be attentive to well-being, listen to your body and respond as quickly as possible to all of its signals, especially the most distinct.

Mood swings - like a litmus indicator indicate that there is something wrong with a person. This may be banal fatigue, but there are more serious reasons. If the symptoms are persistent, it is better to carefully analyze its causes, perhaps even contacting doctors. But most often enough to fully relax and sleep.
