How to learn to speak beautifully: 4 steps to eloquence

The art of eloquence has long been valued by people: in ancient Rome, speakers were honored on a par with noble people, they enjoyed serious authority and respect. Today, a beautiful, competent speech has not lost its value in society: without it, it is impossible to build a successful professional career, not to win the respect of others. The ability to express your thoughts correctly and intelligibly sometimes plays a decisive role (for example, during a trial or clarification of a relationship with a loved one), therefore many people want to learn how to speak so that they can be heard and heard.

This is not so easy to do. Not all the gift of eloquence is given from birth: it must be achieved through hard work and regular occupation. In order to achieve the goal, you will have to take a lot of steps, the main of which are given below. If you master and will regularly carry out the proposed recommendations, the result will not take long.

Step 1. Read more.

The basis of any eloquence is a rich vocabulary. It can only be obtained through the love of reading: it is from books that a person is able to learn new words and their synonyms, learn the meaning and see how they are used in different contexts.

So, what exactly is reading useful for?

  • The vocabulary of a person is increasing: you will learn new words, turns of speech, catch phrases and sayings, aphorisms, synonyms and antonyms, learn to use metaphors.
  • There is an ability to build sentences correctly and to develop a logical thought.
  • In the process of reading, a person develops not only his eloquence, but also draws a large amount of various information that will help him in the future to carry on a conversation on any topic.

Of course, you need to read more, but you must carefully select books. You do not want to speak the language of the tabloid press or pour words from the prison slang? To collect a rich vocabulary, you need to read the classics. It does not have to be extensive works of Tolstoy or Dostoevsky, you can choose literature and more modern.

Read what you like. Choose a genre like. For example, if you like to follow the development of events and make guesses, try reading the English detectives of 19-20 centuries. If you prefer to follow the spiritual experiences of the heroes, you can familiarize yourself with the works of Dumas and other French writers.

If the choice is too difficult for you, try to find ratings of the best books of humanity on the Internet and read them through the list. If reading a work does not give you pleasure, you should not read it through force - so you will only discourage yourself from hunting. The main thing - read what you like.

Here are some guidelines for useful reading of books:

  • If you have encountered an unfamiliar word, do not miss it. Find its meaning in the explanatory dictionary and write it out in a separate notebook. Make it a rule to look at your notes weekly to refresh your memory.
  • Write out in a separate notebook the thoughts of the author who have touched you with something: you liked it or, on the contrary, caused a protest. Further it will be possible to use this notebook in exercises.

Step 2. Discuss

Passive vocabulary will not bring results if you do not use it daily. For people who work in the service sector, this will not cause much trouble: there are always a lot of potential interlocutors around them.

If you sit all day in the office all alone, or stand at the machine full shift, you can only practice your eloquence among friends and relatives. If you are single, do not despair. Register on literary forums and discuss readings with other users.

Do not wait until someone engages you in a conversation - start the conversation yourself. If you are a little shy, you can prepare in advance a list of questions that can serve as the beginning of a discussion.

Step 3. Express your thoughts on paper.

You knowingly wrote the best sayings of your favorite writers in a notebook, they will be useful to you at this stage.

The challenge is to express your thoughts in writing. This will help you focus on the essentials, without being distracted by the need to immediately answer.

For what reason to write? Use your notes. Take the theme of any idea of the writer and develop it, expressing their attitude to the problem. Prove your point of view, argue strong. If you cannot write right away, first make a plan for your essay - this will help you keep the logical line of the story.

An excellent tool for the development of eloquence - keeping a diary. In it, you can write everything that comes into your head: from a description of all the events that occurred the day before the poems, you can and without rhyme. The main thing is to write. Expressing your own thoughts requires using all the vocabulary resources that you get from books, so you need to train as often as possible.

Step 4. Record your presentation on video.

Express your opinion on any occasion in front of the mirror, pre-adjusting the video camera so that the frame is your figure to the waist. Record a video of his speech, conduct a thorough work on the bugs. To do this, go through the points of this list:

  1. Write out all the parasitic words and the number of their uses. Try to continue to ensure that they are not.
  2. Rate your facial expressions and gestures. If you need to speak to an audience, both the lack of expression of emotions and their overabundance will damage your speech. Try to get rid of unnecessarily bright gestures and unpleasant grimaces, watch the position of the hands: they should not be pressed to the sides, but also should not write out chaotic passes.
  3. Follow the logic of your story. Did you disclose all the items equally? Are you not reasoning on insignificant questions? Do not change the topic? Do you proceed smoothly to the next item in the plan?

If it is difficult for you to look for mistakes in your own speech, ask for help to the person whose speech you consider to be the standard. This could be a teacher, a teacher, a parent — anyone, if only he could give you good advice.
