Personal growth

“To work, like for a holiday ...” but what if she doesn't like it?

Choice of profession - one of the main life choices that almost all people have to make.

And even after training in specialized schools no guaranteethat will be able to get to where it will be comfortable and interesting to work.

A person who does not know what to do if you do not like the work, you should analyze the situation: in most cases it is possible to find a solution.

The reasons

The main reasons why you might not like work:

  1. Too demanding or even inadequate boss. If the boss is often scandalous, makes difficult demands, regularly deprives of bonuses and penalizes, refuses to meet even when it is necessary, nobody likes to work for such a person. And even moderate difficulties with the boss can significantly undermine the employee's interest in the case, make him feel uncomfortable.
  2. Low salary. The classic reason for dissatisfaction with work, which is especially common in Russia and some other countries of the former USSR.

It is usually combined with excessive demands from the employer. Also, the attitude to work will worsen if the salary is cut.

  3. Unhealthy situation in the team. In many teams, new employees are wary. In addition, if a newcomer is young, and most of the workers are middle-aged and elderly, they may not behave correctly towards him: lecture, blame him, put himself above him, even if he holds the same post. Also in groups, harassment is common: colleagues may begin to humiliate, insult or ignore one or several employees, which will affect their attitude to work. It is bad if it is difficult for them to quickly change it to another.
  4. Excessive loads. Too much work is exhausting workers, provoking the emergence of a stressful state, which over time will lead to the development of depression or neurosis.
  5. Deterioration of health. Each profession has certain health risks, even an office one. If the performance of any activity will constantly cause discomfort and pain in a person, lead to the development of various chronic pathologies, sooner or later he will think about the need to change it, especially if employers do not provide any opportunities for comfortable treatment.
  6. Disappointment in the profession. Students are not always able to properly assess the wrong side of the profession they have chosen, even in recent years.

Many of them, having got a job and having worked for some time, realize that they have made a very big mistake. This awareness can even crush their mental health.

  7. Work is not a profession. Work that is not related to specialization is fully capable of bringing joy and liking more than work by profession. However, a person who sincerely loves the direction he has chosen and who has fallen into circumstances under which he cannot work in his specialty may well hate work. He will only have to wait for the conditions that will allow him to settle down where he wants, or to create them himself.
  8. Mental diseases. Neuroses and depression distort the perception of any person: he begins to see everything in a negative light, and the more severe the disease, the more pronounced this feature. If, before the onset of the illness, the worker liked what he does for a living, then afterwards he will notice the negative. In addition, due to the disease, his working capacity will deteriorate, which will affect the attitude of his superiors and colleagues towards him. This will further reinforce the feeling that work is not pleasant. As soon as the disease is defeated, the attitude to work will change.
  9. The need to do something that does not correspond to the character and other features of a person. For example, a pronounced introvert may not be easy for a long time to interact with people, and towards evening he will surely feel overwhelmed.

It will be difficult for a person with social phobia to engage in such activities at all, even if he has the necessary skills.

Other factors, such as inconvenient work schedules, routine, or lack of interesting tasks, can reinforce negative feelings towards work.

What to do?

The main recommendations of the psychologist:

  1. Analyze your situation. Is it hopeless? What happens if you quit? How easy is it in your city to find a new job that will be better than the previous one? Can I move? Is there an activity that will be better and more interesting than the current one? In the process of thinking, try to be as objective as possible, distance yourself from negative and self-incrimination. If you can easily find a new job, do it.
  2. Find your favorite thing. If the change of work does not work, try to do everything possible to get as much satisfaction and positive emotions in your free time. Find a hobby, chat with friends, walk in the fresh air, relax, take care of yourself.

Favorite business will be able to give those feelings that work does not give: you will feel necessary, able, you will be able to determine priorities for yourself. Some people turn a hobby into a mainstream job.

  3. Diversify workflow. Clean the workplace, place there a figurine or an object that causes positive emotions and adjusts to work. Get an electronic diary: its notifications can serve as additional motivation. It is also important not to allow yourself to fall into the deadline: when time begins to tighten, the employee is under stress, and he adversely affects both the psyche and somatic health.
  4. Regularly give yourself physical exercise, eat enough, adjust the mode of the day. Get into the habit of doing regular exercises and warm-ups - physical activity improves mood and improves performance. During physical activity, the body produces the hormones of pleasure and joy, and stress is also reduced. Proper nutrition and adequate sleep will improve both mental and physical well-being. It is important for women to avoid strict diets: the feeling of hunger distorts the perception of reality and worsens mood.
  5. Engage in self-education. The study of any disciplines can be your favorite thing, to give satisfaction and happiness. The more you know, the more attractive a candidate you will become for potential employers and the more choice you will have when you decide to quit.

An intelligent and comprehensively developed person is easier to assess their own capabilities and attract the attention of the right people.

  6. Make sure you have no mental illness. As mentioned above, depression and neurosis can change the perception of reality. You should go to the hospital if at least during the last two weeks you have experienced several of the following symptoms: depression, loss of working capacity, feeling of hopelessness, feeling that there is no longer any good, tearfulness, increased anxiety, inadequate irritability, a decrease in loss of interest in the world, people and activities that were liked, sleep disturbances (insomnia, daytime sleepiness), fatigue, memory impairment, attention, the emergence of new intense fear in.
  7. If you conflict with superiors and colleagues, try to find an approach to them. Politely ask to discuss problems, in the process of discussion, try to maintain composure. Use phrases that are not associated with accusations, passive aggression, by any means show that you are committed to a peaceful solution to problems. However, it is far from all cases possible to agree. Be prepared for this. It will also be useful to act not alone, but with someone else (this will be especially useful when talking with superiors: it is easier for several people to convince the boss than for one).

It will also be helpful to find friends in the workplace. Yes, friendship can harm the work process, but it can also be useful.

Friends will support, cheer up, they will always have something to talk about, they can become something that will support your desire to come to work.

How to find a new job that will be like?

If the chosen psychologist is a career counselor, this will be an additional plus.
  2. Think about the possibility of going to courses. Well, if these courses will be associated with your hobbies. For example, a person who draws tolerably, you can try to go to designer courses.

  3. Remember that you can find a temporary job or a part-time job. It is useful to find a job that will not take much time and effort. Most importantly, if you have never worked before: the first money and the realization that work is part of your area of responsibility can change your attitude to the choice of profession and increase self-confidence. Freelance well suited as a temporary job.
  4. Work is not obliged to cause positive emotions. It is important that it does not cause pronounced negativity and bring at least some amount of satisfaction. It is useful to perceive work as a means of earning, and not as something that should please. Even a hobby does not always bring pleasure, what to say about work.
  5. Many people tend to exaggerate possible negatives. For example, a sensitive person who has to do something difficult and important can obviously begin to prepare himself for failure. In his head, there are pictures of how badly he would be treated and how he would ruin everything.

But when he comes to do what is needed, it turns out that everything was not so bad and not so bad.
